Trial and Appeal Experience For the Wrongfully Dismissed

MEET OUR TEAM

Payne Law lawyers have been retained to lead a variety of litigation cases.  Our lawyers have represented clients before various courts, boards, tribunals and appeals all dealing with various disputes including wrongful and constructive dismissal, human rights applications, Canada Labour Code proceedings, defamation actions, EI appeals, and complex appeal proceedings, among others.

The consistent focus of our practice is dispute resolution.  95% of our cases settle well ahead of trial.  Where an acceptable settlement cannot be reached, our professionals thrive in trial and appeal settings.

Our Team

Yan David Payne, B.A.(Hons), LL.B. articled at a highly-respected civil litigation boutique in Toronto.  He later headed the litigation division of boutique litigation firm in Toronto specializing in employment and labour law, taking on full responsibility for important cases and successfully taking numerous cases to trial and to appeal for the years that followed.  Ultimately, Mr. Payne's drive, work ethic and successes led colleagues and clients alike to follow him to his private practice.  He has acted as principle and mentor to articling students and to new lawyers over the years.  Mr. Payne has been retained to lead a variety of litigation cases.  He has represented clients in defamation actions, wrongful and constructive dismissal matters, human rights and complex appeal proceedings, among others.  Mr. Payne has been appointed by the Superior Court of Ontario as Independent Supervising Counsel and has advised and represented a broad range of clients from individual employees to established corporations, from small and medium-sized businesses to domestic, foreign, national and international organizations, from the chief of police and top ranked athletes to court officials as well as other lawyers.  Mr. Payne has an outstanding trial and appeal record including numerous widely-reported cases.

Andrew D. Pelletier, B.A., J.D., articled and began practicing law at a well-established and well-respected boutique firm with over 100 years of corporate tradition.  Mr. Pelletier has represented a wide-range of clients from individuals to large corporations before various tribunals and courts including the Superior Court of Ontario and Superior Court in Bankruptcy and Insolvency, among others.  Mr. Pelletier has delivered results through court trials, board hearings, and through focused negotiations.  Prior to becoming a lawyer, Mr. Pelletier was awarded the Frederick H. Zemans Prize in Poverty Law for his work representing the underdog - a passion for advocacy that continues to fuel his drive.

Richard Yasny, B.A., LL.B., LL.M., was called to the Ontario bar in 1992 and has a broad range of litigation experience including general litigation and employment.  He is an experienced legal researcher and also taught a legal research course as a sessional instructor.  He has dealt with a broad range of disputes, judicial review applications, complaints from professional bodies, disputes with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and Canada Revenue Agency.  He also has extensive tax experience.
